"Dash and Lily"

     “Dash and Lily” debuted on Netflix on November 10, but I waited for the beginning of December to watch it. Nowadays, is nothing unusual to watch Christmas movies and listen Christmas songs throughout the year, but I prefer do it, when Christmas is just around the corner. Probably I will never spend Christmas in New York, so it’s really good that I can experience the magic of that city during this special time of the year. Although, I know many people who think that Christmas in New York is overrated, but even they need to admit that there is something magical in “Big Apple”.

The series tells a story of Dash and Lily who are writing to each other through the red notebook. Lily left it in her favourite bookstore (completely accidentally her cousin works there) with some clues hidden in the books. She has done it, because she didn’t want to spend Christmas alone (her parents and grandfather have left and she was left alone with her older brother. It matters, because Lily loves Christmas, her family and friends always spend this time together in matching pyjamas, and Dash not. He thinks that people are faking happiness, there is a giant crowd and lines in the shops and forced joy everywhere. Sometimes it’s hard to disagree, because recently Christmas has lost some of their magic. Dash and Lily are writing to each other and are leaving the notebook in different places. Sometimes, one of hers o his friends are helping them pass on the notebook. They also give each other some challenges, which are helping get out of their comfort zone and deal with their old demons. We can also see many places in New York: a railway station, a shopping mall, some restaurants or bars. Through the series we can see how the characters are changing and slowly falling in love. It’s seems to they are perfect for each other, although they haven’t seen face to face. They meet at one party and even talk, but they have no idea who they really are. Finally, they meet, but the meeting doesn’t go exactly how they wanted. Obviously, there is a happy ending, because they realize that they are in love. They get together where it all started.

This series is quite nice and sweet. To be honest, I had some moments when I thought that this is a little childish. We all know how it’s going to end, but we are supporting the characters. The series has only 8 episodes which are 20-25 minutes long, so you can watch it in one evening (I did). I love all the characters and I felt the magic of Christmas. There is no information if there will be a season 2, but the series is based on book series, so there is a possibility.
